New Botanical Gardens

Believe it or not The Coachmakers Arms is proud to announce the opening of Hortus Coachus Botanicus, or in other words our new beer garden. Although we call it a garden it's actually the back yard. However there are fine specimens of flora from around the world, Hanley Market and a well-known DIY Superstore. Feel free to visit and stroll among the foliage, meander through the woodland paths or sit at one of many view points and take in the breath-taking vistas whilst enjoying your favourite tipple and a cigarette, pipe or even a fine cigar. Alternatively sit at the patio table from where pretty much all of the landscaping is visible. . . Damn it, you could possibly even touch it (all) from your seat anyway. The Hortus Coachus Botanicus is open to smokers, free of charge. Concessions for non-smokers are available at discount rates (free if you are only visiting the gents, but you will be on a strict time limit). Whether you're a smoker or a non-smoker we hope you enjoy your visit to Hortus Coachus Botanicus; just don't take any cuttings some of the plants are rare/endangered species, (they will be if they don't get any sunshine soon anyway). However the most important thing to remember is: DO NOT SWING ANY CATS.

CAMRA Staffordshire Pub of the Year 2007

The Coachmakers Arms were delighted (nay shocked!!!) to hear that the prestigious title of Staffordshire Pub of the Year 2007 had been awarded to us by CAMRA; Campaign for Real Ale. It is an honour even to be considered "in the running" for this award never mind actually winning it. We would like to say thank you to all involved with the judging and to our customers for their part in helping us to achieve this status. If it wasn't for you (the customer) we would not have a pub at all never mind achieve any awards. Presentation of the award will take place at The Caochmakers Arms on evening of Thursday 13th September, consider yourself invited.

Potteries Pub Preservation Group Community Pub of the Year 2007

Community Pub of the Year, implies two things; both community and pub, or more accurately the community in and around a pub. So which is the award winner? The community or the pub? The answer is "Both". (Each being dependant on the other.) As the local community that once served "The Coach" has now largely disappeared, we feel particularly privileged to gain a community award. It is entirely our customers who now create a community of their own within the walls of the pub, from where ever they may hail. So on this occasion we are the ones saying, "Well done on YOUR award, and thank you all for making The Coachmakers Arms a warm, welcoming and friendly place to be". The award was heavily featured on BBC Radio Stoke and in The Sentinel. To read these, and many more articles featuring The Coachmakers Arms click here. The award for P.P.P.G. Community Pub of the Year 2007 will be celebrated by P.P.P.G. members on 21st July and of course you are invited to join in the celebrations as a huge part of the pub community.

Music at The Coachmakers Arms

The Hanley Harmony Jazz Band

On the last Wednesday of the month The Coachmakers Arms plays host to The Hanley Harmony Jazz Band, playing Trad. Jazz. The sounds of New Orleans drift around the pub and provide pleasant background music that is unobtrusive to conversation, easy on the ear and instantly familiar even to non-jazz fans.

Play the rootinest-tootinest Bluegrass and American Folk this side of the cotton-picking low down River Trent; Yee-Ha!!!

Pluck'd provide the entertainment at The Coachmakers Arms on the 2nd Wednesday of the month once again bringing music from across the Atlantic, this time in the form of American Roots music, Bluegrass and sometimes almost slightly Cajun. Once again this provides background music for the rest of the pub but I recommend being in the same room as this band; they're well worth seeing.
